A new stack.....Splider

I added it to a new project the other day, built in Foundry2. The native sliders weren’t really working out, i got Splider at launch so figured give it a try. It’s a really nice simple slider that does exactly what you need most of the time. Refreshing considering most nowadays are bloated to feck.

One feature, which may or may not be possible, is the ability to float content over the slides. I think that might only be poss with sliders that use the images as backgrounds, but maybe not?

It would be possible with any slide type but I think the only real use case would be to float text over an image slide show. I’ll have a play with that and see if it makes sense to add.

You can of course add Containers with a BG image to add and position whatever content you want over the image. That gives you full flexbox alignment of anything over the images.

My brain is fried lately, so i might be talking bollox (likely), but I think what you are describing means the content over the slides “slides” with the, erm, slide. I’m a big fan of having the content over the slide not slide.

Does that make sense?

I’m not distracting from Splider though, it’s a great slider stack and will be my go-to now.

Yep - static over the slides is how I would have it.

@habitualshaker any ETA for the how to build it course?

The more I think about this I think it would be a great new feature.

Hopefully by the end of the month @pmjd. It’s all planned out so I just need some peace and quiet to record the videos (not easy when in lockdown with 2 small kids!). I’ll get it out as soon as I can - even if it means I add some additional videos at a later date.

Anyway I purchased it and off course it can do vertial sliders :-)

I think a very nice addition would be to be able to style the buttons with graphics, pictures and texts

No worries, looking forward to it when it comes out

Hi all - a huge update to Splider was just pushed out. Here’s what’s new in v1.1:

  • Video child stack. You can now add Youtube, Vimeo or self-hosted videos as slides.
  • Video options. Autoplay, mute, loop etc
  • Styling options. You can now style the background, border and opacity of inactive and active slides!
  • Height ratio. New option to set the height / shape of slides by using an aspect ratio. This is especially useful if building a video or image slider. Also useful for ‘top to bottom’ slides.
  • Cover mode. Option to set any Splider Image slide stacks to ‘cover’ the available space. A great option to use in conjunction with the height ratio option for image slide shows.
  • Image child stack. Made the lazy load image stack a more general image stack

The Splider web page has been updated with more examples and I have refreshed the example project too.

If you have not got Splider yet then the launch discount is good for a few more days yet (until Fri 15th)!

Enjoy!!

Thanks for this great update.

Very cool to be able to also add video slides.

The new cover and ratio is a big feature that makes adding different sized images a quick and simple process.

Splider - out of interest and before I break something , is it possible in theory to place web yep image stacks (s4s) into splider - I have got this to work in other static image stacks with a light box ,
It would create a nice CMS slider if it’s possible . I don’t know enough about the background doings Im afraid !

I know nothing about webyep or how it works but I don’t see why not. You can add any stack as content in a Splider Stacks slide type.

I haven’t used WebYep, but I have the S4S stacks and had a quick look. From what I can see, the CMS Images are stored locally inside the WebYep folder. The WebYep Image stack accesses these images using the WebYep Fieldname for each image or to put this another way, is accessing the images in the same way as a local warehoused image. Which is how nearly every RW CMS works. So you could access the images as normal warehoused images.

yes thats how WP stores its images , it was really a question of whether the splider can deal with it, I’ve done a test and works well enough. There is of course WY stacks that deal with galleries etc and S4S does an excellent service with his stack set, I highly recommend them, but a little added flair with Splider doesn’t go amiss :)

Can I target a Splider slide from a link? For example, can I somehow pull “Slide #3” into focus if I click on a link in another stack?

Hi @brijazz - not yet but that is coming in v1.2 (hopefully in next month or two!)

Will do @brijazz

While I’m here i may as well mention that I have just pushed out version 1.1.1 of Splider. Has a few nice new things:

  • Option to not reset progress when pause on hover ends (in autoplay mode)
  • Option to control alignment of slide content
  • Splide slides now reflect styling options in edit mode

The option to control alignment of slide content takes away a lot of the need to drop in third-party container stacks to hold your slide content. I have updated the demo project making use of this.

Also in this version is…

Support for Poster 2 stack

Fancy displaying your blog items in a slider format? Well now you can!! Check it out: Demo 1 | Demo 2

For this to work you’ll also need to update Poster 2 to v2.2.0 from @Jannis!

There’s an example of the Poster integration in the demo project file now too!

Enjoy!!
