Elixirgraphics will be missed

I use the Back Market App now instead of buying new. So far, all good.

Hi @jamessouttar we now have all the tools to produce what we liked to watch 10 years ago. The problem is that not many people want to watch it anymore. Itā€™s the same problem with screen sizes: we all dreamed of a 75-inch screen in our living room 10 years ago, now that itā€™s possible and cheap, weā€™re all watching a 6-inch. Artificial intelligence and its answers to our requests are clearly going to change everything, in fact itā€™s already happened. I no longer wander around websites looking for something to buy, I tell my GPT-perplexity what I want (or ask it what I might need or want) and it provides me with the answers. When will we generate at the same time a graphic presentation that would make our websites as we know them totally obsolete? This remark was made to me by a talented developer who is interested in artificial intelligence, I fear he is right.

Donā€˜t get me wrong, I love Gen.AI ā€” Chat GPT and Midjourney were the best toys I was ever given! And it will change our world, but I suspect in the same way that Photoshop did. Meaning that a small number of people will use it to create interesting things. Otherwise it will be like the cameras on peopleā€™s phones ā€” power that 1950s photographers could only dream of, but the vast majority of users still clueless about composition, lighting, depth of field, etc. and using their phone cameras to capture banal selfies in auto mode.

But the reason I made the point I did in relation to Adam pulling out of the shrinking stacks market is that weā€™re set to see much less spending on tech in the next decade, and far fewer new products. And the reason is twofold: most people and businesses donā€™t have the money to splash around that they had ten years ago, and because they are bored of tech. What Gen.AI can do would have been jawdropping if it had been demonstrated to folk in the 1960s, but today it is simply ā€˜Meh!ā€™ Would you spend Ā£6000 on Chat GPT, as some of us did on our first Mac and printer? Ā£600, like we did on Photoshop? Ā£60, like we did on Rapidweaver? Most users wonā€˜t even upgrade to the paid tier.

Yes I think we say the same thing differently. Iā€™m agree with you. The shrinking of the market (of markets?) is obvious.

Iā€™d like some update on where we are with Stacks Pro. Itā€™d been a year or so since the idea was dropped. Where are we?

See here

Stacks Pro Status Update

Thanks, I missed that

Iā€™m pretty sure Foundry will continue to work fine for some time yet with RW. RW Classic has just been updated and will continue to be. I also wouldnā€™t be at all surprised if someone develops/amends the foundry theme suitable for Stacks Pro when it gets released - it wonā€™t be a tricky development at all and Stacks Pro IS on itā€™s way!

That aside, good as F6 is, itā€™s not the only alternative blank theme. Source is brilliant and inexpensive. Will Woodgateā€™s blank theme is often overlooked but works with all regular stacks and is available for a donation.

Yes Blank theme from William Woodgate (Stacks4stacks / Themeflood) is a must have. šŸ‘

Of course it will. Nothing will immediately stop working.

But Adam has been very clear that he does not sanction anyone else to modify the Foundry theme, itself. If Stacks Pro is able to run Foundry unmodified, then thatā€™s great, but obviously future PHP updates may break things like Alloy.

Classic might continue to be updated. Weā€™ll seeā€¦

Check out Home | Blankstrap 5

Me neither šŸ˜Š

Blankstrap yes šŸ‘
For the other thing, I believe copyright is important and copyright violation a very bad thing šŸ‘Ž and a total lack of respect.

I wasnā€™t aware that Adam had expressed that? As I understand it no themes will run on Stacks Pro unless modified.

This is the case. No modification is needed for Foundry to work in Stacks Pro.

Yep, on his own forum, heā€™s been very clear.

So what do you know that Adam doesnā€™t? As he has stated that Foundry didnā€™t work as-is in Stacks Pro.

He had a dev beta, that didnā€™t have all the functions working, as was stated a few times by me back in April in Yourheads discord.

Stacks Pro is Stacks, and it will work.

Perhaps, but again, Isaiah recently stated that themes need to be updated to a new API. You canā€™t use the Foundry system without the theme. So what are you really trying to say?

But you have another version and knows itā€™ll work? Why didnā€™t Adam have the same beta?

This all stinks.

The whole thing stinks more than you can imagine.
