Help Please; I'm Looking for a Calendar / Event Stack

Hello

I’m looking for suggestions for a Calendar / Event Stack.

Thanks

Bill

What does it need to do and what have you considered so far?

It’s a New idea for the website I’m working on. I’m looking to add a calendar of BBQ Contests. I would want to separate / sort by contest type and location sorted by state and date.

Your insight and suggestions are appreciated.

Have a look at the Poster stack from InStacks. I’m sure someone who frequents this forum has used it to build a sophisticated catalogue of apartments or attractions or something like that which can be filtered using categories. Hopefully they’ll be along soon to shed some actual light on this, rather than my badly-remembered gloom.

Hej Rob, yes that sounds like a good idea. never thought to use Poster for those sorts of things. Thank you, I have a use for that also.

Go to TeamUp.com and sign up for a FREE calendar, which is actually up to 8 different calendars for free. You can have the option to have people sign up for events if you like. The calendars can be displayed in different shared configurations, like having them display a description of the event or not, or you can place URLs etc to documents, other sites, or whatever. I have used TeamUp for a FamilySearch library classes for about 4 years now. Being free and very functional has worked for me. I then just embed the calendar into the project page. We scheduled activities etc, for different age groups from this calendar.

Thank you! for the ideas, much appreciated.

I’m a amazed at uses for Poster 2.

Are there any better calendar display solutions than Google? It works well, but only one colour option and embedding it is fraught with issues as it is non-responsive (I did check TeamUp, but don’t want to get into a subscription.

I’ll also be using Poster 2 for an events list.

Thanks :)

Weavium used to have a nice looking calendar stack that could pull info from a google calendar, but it doesn’t look like Weavium exists anymore (or their site is down)…

Weavium is out of business for many months (maybe even 1-2 years). It’s a pity, but for that reason I would recommend to not use any of his stacks for your projects, since there’ll be absolutely no support for these.

I’ve integrated the “PHP Event Calendar” from PHPjabbers into a clients’ RapidWeaver site about 2 years ago. Here is the script: PHP Event Calendar | PHP Calendar Script | PHPJabbers
And here is the site: Termine – BrunnenGemeinde
Integration is super-easy by only pasting a code-snippet into your page.

Thanks Matthias, that is super helpful! It looks much more customisable than google calendar and no advertising either!

Hi @wolf Thank you for sharing this. I wonder how they earn money with one free script download per day? Is there regular updates and a pay plan ? I’m always reluctant with free tools. “There’s no free lunch” as the man with cigar, whiskey et no sport said 😋

They are selling their whole bundle for € 279.- and doing individual modifications to the scripts for money. So it seem to me that is enough income for them, so that they can make such an offer (1 free script per day; this must have been changed since I last had contact with them). Also I think that you only get the script license which doesn’t allow modification or removing the mention of php-jabbers. But I’m not sure on that.
What I can say about them: the scripts are really solid, working absolutely flawlessly. Their support is great and they are very helpful regarding any questions. That said, I can absolutely recommend them. :-)

Thank you very much for the detailed response. I’ll get in touch with them next week, maybe a solution for me here 👍

Firstly, I really appreciate all the advice here from a few weeks ago and I will certainly be taking that advice in the long term, however life is very pressured (every client gives a tight deadline type-pressure, and I have shortly have to go off to Ladakh for another project…)

What I need is a very quick fix now - my client has all their events and bookings on Google Calendar currently - is there a stack or nicer way to embed Google Calendar in a site responsively? It is currently embedded with a couple of different size / breakpoint options, but it is not great - any quick fix, low spend options appreciated until I have time to implement a better system?

To make it quick without risking errors I only see an Iframe as a temporary solution. I am sorry for not having followed up on my comment, PHP Jabbers did its job in 15 days to customize my appointment scheduling calendar with generation of a teleconference link for each payment of the reservation but I have not yet had time to test it in a real situation, with Mampro locally it is all good, really very good work. I am on something completely different at the moment, I will not test it in real conditions for at best two months. Sorry I cannot help you more.

Hm, I’ve no experience with Google Calendar. The only thing which comes to my mind are these two stacks, which are able to import data from Google:

But I fear that these cannot be used with data from Google Calendar. So maybe the iFrame suggestion from Bruno could work best for you currently for a quick solution:

Thanks @Kent @Wolf, @Bruno for all your feedback - I am going to check both Offsite and the Calendar - I really like the PHP Event calendar, but there is no way I have the time at this moment. Scott’s Calendar stack looks like a good option, but I will also check with Joe to see how he feels offsite will work with G calendar
