I’m running a small website which I’ve had for years and want to modernise, and I’m looking at whether to upgrade to RW9. I’ve identified what seems to be a decent Stack for online payments which is compatible with RW8 and my hosting package can accommodate it, so is it worth it? Are there actually any real-world benefits or additional features available after moving to 9?
At the moment all I can see is that:
I’ll be paying an annual fee if I want support (albeit I don’t have support for RW8 now);
I’ll be able to use it on one Mac as opposed to the two I use it on now.
…neither of which are compelling arguments. On the other hand I worry that I’m eventually going to get stuck in some sort of limbo on an outdated version and need to keep current. It feels like it’s not very attractive to upgrade or to stay where I am!
Luckily the development of Stacks Pro (a standalone app for stacks) is in progress. You can check the Discord channel of Yourhead and/or this site for updates posted by @isaiah
Thanks for the reply, and apologies for taking so long to comment on this one. Life has got in the way as usual, but I’m also still sitting on the fence on this one regarding the decision to upgrade, particularly with the availability of Black Friday offers.
I would like to ask one question. I’m currently on RW8.9.4 which I believe is the last and latest release of RW8, and as I alluded to in my original post I’m attempting to update a site I’ve not worked on for some time so I’m a bit rusty with RW in general as that’s basically all I use it for. However when I try to access any help I find that the documentation is a dead link (apparently due to the subdomain disappearing) and the video tutorials are no longer available (due to the community being reorganised). Can you tell me if these RW8 help resources are still available?
